Online Overthinking Counselling in Leicester

If you find it difficult to switch off, repeatedly question your decisions or feel trapped in cycles of "what if" thoughts, overthinking can become exhausting. AK Wellbeing offers confidential online counselling for adults experiencing overthinking in Leicester, across Leicestreshire and throughout the UK.

What is overthinking?

Overthinking is more than simply thinking carefully about something. It can involve repeatedly replaying past conversations, analysing situations from every angle or imagining everything that might go wrong. Even when you want to stop, your mind may continue searching for certainty or answers that never feel quite complete.

Common signs of overthinking

Overthinking can affect your confidence, concentration and ability to relax. You may notice that you:

· Replay conversations and worry about what you said

· Doubt decisions after you have made them

· Imagine worst-case scenarios

· Seek reassurance but still feel uncertain

· Struggle to switch off or sleep

· Put off decisions because you fear making the wrong choice.

· Find it difficult to stay present and enjoy the moment

Why can overthinking be difficult to stop?

Overthinking often begins as an attempt to solve a problem, prevent mistakes or feel more certain. However, repeatedly analysing the same situation can create more doubt rather than clarity. The more you search for the perfect answer, the harder it can become to trust yourself, make a decision and let the thought go.

How can overthinking affect everyday life?

Overthinking can make even straightforward situations feel complicated. You may spend so much time analysing choices that decisions become difficult, or you find yourself distracted by thoughts when working, resting or spending time with others. This can affect your sleep, relationships and confidence, leaving you mentally drained and less able to trust your own judgement.

How can counselling help with overthinking?

Counselling can help you explore the patterns and experiences that may be keeping overthinking going. Together, we can notice what triggers repetitive thoughts, understand what they are trying to protect you from and develop more helpful ways of responding. Over time, this can help you trust your own judgement, tolerate uncertainty and feel less controlled by the need to analyse everything.

My approach to counselling for overthinking

My work is rooted in person-centred counselling, offering you a supportive and non-judgmental space to explore your experiences at your own pace. Where appropriate, I may also draw on CBT and Gestalt tools to help you notice repetitive thought patterns, understand how they affect you and practice responding with greater awareness and self-trust.

When might it be helpful to seek support?

It may be helpful to seek counselling if overthinking is affecting your sleep, concentration, relationships or ability to make decisions. You do not have to wait until it feels unmanageable; support can help when repetitive thoughts begin taking up too much of your time and emotional energy.
